The First Rum Runner

In January of 1920, Bill McCoy became the first to fill a boat with alcohol in the Caribbean, sail it up to New York City, and legally act as a floating liquor store three miles off shore.

McCoy never adulterated his spirits, while copy-cat rum runners would stretch their product with turpentine, wood alcohol and prune juice. The sullied products were nicknamed "Booze," "Hooch" and "Rot Gut," while McCoy’s quality spirits became known throughout speakeasies and worldwide as "The Real McCoy."

True to the original McCoy's dedication to transparency, in 2020 The Real McCoy Rum became the first U.S. brand to print Ingredients & Serving Facts on our label.

Ingredients: Barbados Spring Water, Rum...and time. Natural caramel color is added to the 5 & 12 year.
